I just remember that when I was writing Java applets, if I loaded them
locally (with Netscape) from a file: URL, that these applets weren't
subjected to the same SecurityManager.
Of course, this wasn't very useful, since I was trying to write
something that would work on a customer's box, loaded across the
network.
I suppose that this could be used for some types of exploits, given
the right conditions.
