Something isn't right here..

1) As of today, there is no bill filed that has the title mentioned on
that web page.

2) It is against the law (or at least the ethics rules) to pay a
representative to perform any official act, such as introduce a bill.

3) It is against the Federal Election Law to make or receive a
contribution from an individual for more than $2000 per cycle and/or more
than $5000 per cycle from a PAC. To date, in the 2002 cycle, the Disney
Employees PAC has given Hollings $2000. I don't see any contributions from
disney employees to Senator Hollings for the 2002 or 2000 cycle. There is
one Disney employee who gave $1000 to Hollings in 1997. So, to me, the
$25,000 assertion is very out of place, lacking further evidence.

I have no doubt that there are evil things going on in Congress in trying
to take our rights away, but this one needs much more evidence to back it
up. A draft of a bill that hasn't been filed and assertions of
contributions that [so far] don't seem to exist doesn't cut it.

Perhaps it would be a better idea to "educate" our elected representatives
about these issues by inviting them (one at a time) to a LUG meeting, lay
out the issues, and solicit support. Sununu would be a good one to start
with because he supposedly has some grasp of the technical world already.
Smith would be another good invitee because he is up for election.

Another person to try to get help from is Dean Kamen, because he has the
ear of some of these elected officials, and is known to them as a
technology person.

Eternal Vigilance is the only way to keep our freedoms.
