Folks,

Most of you know that I am not a very political animal. I normally leave
such things up to people who have more time and energy to study the issues
than I do.

However there is an act being introduced by US Senator Fritz Hollings that
would make the DMCA seem like child's play by comparison.

I will let you read the article published by the online version of the
Embedded Linux Journal, but believe me when I say that this threatens all
free software operating systems everywhere. We need to stop it.

>Disney Seeks Linux Ban

> The Walt Disney Company has paid US Senator Fritz Hollings $25,000 to
> introduce a bill called the SSSCA that would require mandatory Digital
> Rights Management (DRM) on all consumer electronics and computer
> equipment. Because DRM schemes are effective only when the user is not
> allowed to know how they work, the SSSCA--if passed--would make the
> development of free operating systems illegal.

> A Consumer Electronics Association spokesperson said that CEA opposes
> the SSSCA. Major Linux vendors have said nothing.
