Bryan, I have conveyed your fear about the Disney statement to Don Marti, the editor of the Linux Journal that sent out the letter. I am awaiting his answer. But your points about lobbying at all levels are valid so having a meeting to plan some actionism, get an idea of the rational, careful, clearly laid out message (hmmm, didn't I send a letter somewhat like that to the group about two years ago on a different topic?) would be good. Pull in the SwANH people and explain to them why this is bad legislation. Pull in the Unix people in the state also (Don Marsten's group) and BLU. Get to the Educators and explain why this would really hurt OS studies (you would not be able to see ANYONE'S source code). I would also look to the EFF for some guidance in what to do. > If you're serious about this, let's get moving. Who is in command, and > what are the orders? We can not afford to not be serious about this. (I know, I know, double negative) As to "who is in charge", I would be happy to take up this flame, but I know that I will be too busy in both the near and far future to fan this flame with all the other fires I have going. I will tell y'all that I have asked one of Ralph Nader's organizations to present a session on "effective lobbying for open systems" at the ALS conference, and they have tentatively agreed. I can get some of those materials to you after the event is over. I would say to pick a leader among you and organize. md -- ============================================================================= Jon "maddog" Hall Executive Director Linux(R) International email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] 80 Amherst St. Voice: +1.603.672.4557 Amherst, N.H. 03031-3032 U.S.A.
