Cole,

The HAM radio Hobby is really great! I have been a "ham" for over 6
years and am always learning something new! You definately don't need a
real strong background in electronics to become one.

Here are a couple of resources you can check out!

Web Related:
http://www.arrl.net - This site will have everything you could ever
want to know about HAM radio.

Attend a local club meeting:
Pending on where your located... there are a few clubs in the area.

NARC Nashua Amateur Radio Club http://www.n1fd.org
          PART of Westford MA http://www.wb1gof.org
BARS Billerica ARC Billerica MA http://www.chelmsford.com/bars

there are many others. Goto arrl.net and search for clubs in your
area.

As for "requirements" to becoming a ham:

There is a test involved. About 45 Questions and they cover Electronic
theory (basic stuff) Radio Regulations and Radio Theory. just to name a
few. Some of the clubs offer free courses to getting your license (- coarse
materials)

If you have any other questions please feel free to email me offline...

Just curious.

Can anybody tell me about this event with regards to folks who
have absolutely zero knowledge about Ham? I have never touched a Ham
radio, let alone used one. With recent events, it's beginning to sound
like a practical and useful skill to have, though. Is this event the
kind of thing where a total newbie could get a beginners education?
