Hi, Once again I am rounding up folks who want to take advantage of (or be taken advantage by) Hosstraders. This is the twice-yearly Ham Radio and somewhat computer swap fest and junk sale that used to be held at Rochester Fair Grounds in Rochester, NH, but is now held at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds in (guess where?) Hopkinton, NH. (We don't do anything fancy up hyeah...). This fall the dates are October 5th and 6th (Rob). Normally the gates open at Noon on Friday, and close at sometime late afternoon on Saturday. Since we are in a building (as opposed to having a table outside, our building opens at 0730 Friday morning for setup and closes 2100 hours on Friday evening, to open again 0730 Saturday morning. Last year Ed Lawson had a great display of Ham radio programs, etc. that was definitely a hit, and Ben Scott (another long-time hosstraders masochist) brought along his superbox to display also, but the more the merrier. Camping is allowed on the grounds, and a lot of people camp out over night and talk about Ham stuff until the small hours of the morning. Others of us sleep. You may be able to tell which group I identify with. There are lots of carnival stands to buy greasy Italian sausages, greasy fried dough and greasy pizza from, so you won't starve. Sometimes they even have good chili, but don't expect to find health food.....more like heart-stopping, artery-blocking death food. Yum. But you should bring your own beer. I am purchasing space for four tables. I will also see if we can rent four tables to put our stuff on like we did last year. Normally one or two tables are used for displaying "What is Linux" stuff, and two/three are used for selling people's "stuff" that they want to sell. Basically what this comes down to is that your "stuff" that you would normally take to the landfill instead gets transferred to someone else's garage/basement to forestall mercury infiltrating our water supply. I will invite the UNH crew to join us inside (since it always rains) to sell their normal accompanyment of "stuff", and if any of you have some "stuff" to sell, please let me know. I have some "stuff", including early copies of the Linux Journal, ancient machinery still in the box (and some out-of-box). You know that you have some "stuff" also. Hopkinton Fair Grounds is off exit 7 of Rt. 89, just NW of Concord. There is a small town near the fairgrounds, but for those who want to stay in a Hotel or Motel you can stay at the Hampton (exit 1 off Rt. 89, 1-800-426-7866) or at the Fairfield in Concord (603.224.4011). md P.S. This is such a beautiful time of year, that if you don't come to Hosstraders you may be stuck in the family car peeping at leaves. -- ============================================================================= Jon "maddog" Hall Executive Director Linux(R) International email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] 80 Amherst St. Voice: +1.603.672.4557 Amherst, N.H. 03031-3032 U.S.A.
