At the Tue 2 Oct 2001 meeting in Nashua, Martha Jo had asked me about audio problems on Mandrake 8.0. I have experienced similar problems on my Mandrake 8.0 system at home. Specific symptoms were:
1. "Scratchy" or "static" during sound playback 2. Last 1/2 second or so of samples being repeated (looping) once at end 3. Anything using esound/esd under GNOME was erratic or froze completely One thing I recommended trying was switching kernels: Mandrake 8.0 uses a 2.4 kernel by default. Tonight, I was curious, so I checked, and Mandrake had installed a 2.2 kernel (from package "kernel22-2.2.19-10mdk"). I booted that instead, and the problems went away. This isn't what I would call an ideal solution, but I figured I would toss it out. Hope it helps someone.
