I've heard the same rumor - for several years. Network Plus (who re-sold
Northpoint) used it in several sales pitches. Of course, then Northpoint went
under. Lightship used it a few times too.

Whether it has any basis, I don't know. I've spoken to a couple of engineers
inside them, and they didn't give me the impression of problems. Of course, they
may the last to know.

My experiences have been good dealing the the engineers & installers. Pretty
good with customer support folk too.

If you look at any provider nowadays, they all look shaky. They all bad mouth
each others financial or technical standings.

Too often the sales folk promise impossible things: A company (which shall
remain nameless because I've forgotten their name) recently promised a client of
mine that a pair of 256k DSL lines hooked to the Internet would be faster than
their dedicated, direct T1 and it would fix a software problem in a payroll
program too! When I finally spoke to the tech, he said their product wouldn't
even work for the client at all. Obviously, they did not get the deal (though
the client was ready to sign until the last moment).

As always "caveat emptor." And don't hitch your cart to only one horse.
