In general. But since the .deb for mbr says it's part of
the "base" installation and only depends on libc6 (>= 2.2.3-7)
in practice it would likely "just work".
I'd be arguing this point more energetically if it hadn't just
sunk in that this guy has deinstalled his Mandrake distro - so
this whole discussion us moot. Oh, well...
