The primary apps appear to be Xine, Mplayer, VideoLAN and Ogle. I use Xine, on both Mandrake 8.1 and 8.2, and have had good luck with it. Xine homepage: http://xine.sourceforge.net Useful site, includes Xine HOWTO: http://dvd.sourceforge.net Site with d4d plugin for Xine: http://www.captaincss.tk Ogle homepage: http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/groups/dvd VideoLAN homepage: http://www.videolan.org Site with binary RPMs for Xine, Mplayer, and Ogle for various recent levels of Mandrake, including libs & codecs: http://plf.zarb.org Site with binary RPMs for all four of the players for RedHat 7.3: http://valhalla.freshrpms.net/ The only gotcha is that you need to locate the correct libs if you want to view "encrypted" DVDs (which you will find to be a very prevalent format), or if you want to use the same player to view files encoded with any of M$' proprietary codecs (which Xine can do, with the codecs installed). Libdvdcss site: http://www.videolan.org/libdvdcss/download.html Libdvdread site: see Ogle homesite.
