Dear Claude,

I hope you are doing well as well as your family.
I'm not sure you remember me so... I was the pt_PT coordinator for some years
(2001 until 2015 active although I lingered until 2017 trying to find someone
to replace me before I abandoned the post).

I just want to confirm that Juliano did contact me. Actually, he requested
admission on the mailing list. But as I told him, the team never had more than
3 (including myself) active translators simultaneously and the list was not
used at all. People would rather work alone and contact me to submit (before
the l10n interface allowed uploading and doing the full commit lifecycle from
there).

Although having a native pt_BR leading the pt_PT team is not the ideal scenario
(the pt_PT users will probably default missing translations to pt_BR anyway),
it may prove beneficial. He can learn the pt_PT terminology from observing the
existing translations. He is aware of the Orthographical Agreement (AO-90) in
effect and that changed some orthography both for pt_PT and pt_BR. He may
become the catalytic for pt_PT natives to start sending translations and/or
reviewing, as they see their work used (seems that was the problem with Mansil).

This is just my reasoning. I'm no longer involved so it's not up to me to take
decisions. But at least I believe it's important to confirm Juliano's statement
that he did in fact contact me and we exchanged some emails on the mailing list
and pt_PT translations.

Thank you for your time reading this and your continuous dedication to GNOME!
Cheers,
Duarte "HappyGuy" Loreto

Subject: Re: Portuguese Translation Team (pt)

Hi Claude,

It depends on what you believe is "ready". Let make me clear, I am not a
Portuguese, I am Brazilian. I speak Portuguese but not as they do in Portugal.
Still, I am kind of learning how to speak like they do and I use Linux as OS so
"why not merge the two things?" I was asking myself.

That is the first point I want to stress, I am not full aware of the vocabulary
they use.

I am not a power user, just a normal one. I am aware of some tricks and do have
a little knowledge about Git/GitLab. The same can be said about English, I am
not actually proficient and that is the second thing, I am still in learning
time.

About the group, yes, I did tried to contact them but as Duarte "HappyGuy"
Lorete (Mailing List Owner) said me, the group is dead. It never had full
acceptance, people just did what they wanted. He can talk about it better than
me, I am just getting in the boat right now.

I did tried to contact to Mansil (mm...@sky.com), the team reviewer, five days
ago but I did not receive a answer yet.

Well, that is all the working done till now. Navigating through
https://l10n.gnome.org/languages/pt/gnome-3-38/ui/ I can see a bunch of
"Translated" things but none committed. That is sad. I received a reddit
message from João Matos (https://l10n.gnome.org/users/joaonmatos/) and he said
that Mansil was trying to do things but was unable to fulfill it. Also said
that translations was hanging indefinitely until someone do something and he
leave the team. Come on! Let the community decide if something was write wrong.
There is the report button for that, am I right? This is sad.

I have time for now till end of the year (I believe?) so I want help where it
is needed.

At.te,
Juliano

> > Hi,
> > There is no coodinator nor submitter on the Portuguese (pt)
Translation Team, can someone add me as one? I would like to push forward all
the translations that are now stucked and contribute until the Gnome 3.38
realease.

> Hi Juliano,
>
> Thanks for the proposal. So are you ready to take the responsibilities
> of a coordinator as explained in:
>
> Do you know if the group gnome...@yahoogroups.com is still active? If it
> is, did you discuss the absence of a coordinator there?
