That is not really the idea. Why hide certain settings?

But nobody took it up until now, and meanwhile various support things have been
removed. It would've been nice to hear this a bit earlier.

But as said: please announce. And with that: blog post + desktop-devel-list.
Otherwise people won't be aware, and you'll run into issues.
