I think this whole thing is a good idea. Giving users who desire to be power users a helping hand. And as much as I love GNOME, I would say in general the CLI is superior, but I hate mice. They require all your attention to use, whereas a keyboard only requires your fingers so I can be focused elsewhere. I also feel the shell is more powerful to the end user- you can do anything with it, whereas in the GUI someone else has to have written an app that does what you want. You may say that people had to write the console tools as well, which is true- but they have long been there. Of course you cant view images in it and whatnot, but you know what I mean.
Not trying to start a flame war or debate over X vs term or anything... just my two cents. I'm not dying to see this feature but I think it's a neat idea and would like to see it as an option. Isn't that what GUIs on Linux are about, options? Unlike Windows or even Mac I can choose my fvwm, fluxbox, GNOME, or even KDE, or not to use one at all. GNOME should be easy enough for novice/non-geeks to use productively without crippling developers/hackers/power users. Not having this doesn't cripple us, but adding it could help those aspiring to be a developer/hacker/power user. nef _______________________________________________ gnome-love mailing list [email protected] http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-love
