well, think of what the distros are doing downstream..
Your point is interesting, regarding Ubuntu:
I see exactly that in Ubuntu, we're still on Compiz, the panel environment
is being pimped with libindicator, metacity is our WM and Unity is making
the nasty overlay desktop scaling focus stealing thingy unnecessary..

I'm sure it's a good start to say, Ubuntu Linux is becoming the GNOME Shell
Classic.

Canonical is knee deep in GNOME, so i'm not worrying about how relevant
Ubuntu will become in this context..
