okok, let's put it differently, so my blurry words can come clear:
Ubuntu ships both, metacity and compiz.
Honestly, thank you for shaking me out of sleep here, i never took the time
to actually untangle this in my head, now i was forced to, and it helped me
understand a lot of problems.

ok. Makes sense on the stability side, but i think reducing legacy GNOME to
gnome-panel and metacity alone is a little short on some ends..
