I also had the same experience with the Hot Corner, usually upon trying to reach the Close Button on a Window.
Usually you would just throw the Mouse to the upper-left Corner and move down a bit to get to the Close Button, so i figured maybe a little delay for the activation could solve those Problems without having to mess with the UI itself. It could be made available as a variable value to hook on with Applications like Gnome Shell Tweak Tool ( i believe it's called something like this) cause if your Close Buttons live on the left side you already tweaked the Shell and thus would also be experienced enough to figure out the Setting for the Activation Delay.
