Please drop that tendentious metaphor of "rewriting history". We are
not documenting "history", we are distributing free software.

We would like to set up a repository for Linux Libre which includes
all the free code and changes but excludes the nonfree. Omitting some
present and past code of Torvalds' version is part of the goal.
Currently our only way to do this is not to use a repository.
We would like to do this using a repository, to improve convenience.

The question is how to do this most conveniently.
