Note the fact that Verizon, the defendant, is not mentioned
in this statement as having to do anything at all. The SDLC
surrendered, pure and simple. They look like fools.
The source code for the GPLed software on Actiontec routers which
Verizon distributes was made available as a result of the
legal action taken by the SFLC. They look like victors.
But it was not made available as a result of that legal action.
It was made available before the legal action. The SDLC never
sued the party that made it available either. The SDLC sued the
wrong party, certainly, both in terms of the law and in terms of
publicity. Now they look like boobs.
Please don't insult boobs! I've seen a lot of boobs that look much
smarter than Dan Ravicher or Eben Moglen.

What irks me is that the victims of the SDLC are the little companies that
use Linux the way that it was intended to be used and do not have the
resources to waste on defending their otherwise clean conduct. So they are
pounced upon by the FSF/SDLC and made to pay homage to the cause along with
being mugged for a few bucks to keep the muggers mugging. At the end of the
day, the victims are a little poorer, FOSS is no better off, and the world
is not changed one whit. The people who use the FOSS products in commerce
are paying the price rather than being encouraged to do more. That is why
Linux is a flop.
