You might have run into the same font-mismatch problem that I had with
1.0.18. Please ask your sysadmin to try out lilypond 1.0.19.uu1 (which I am
currently uploading), available as a Debian package at
http://www.debian.org/~foka/lilypond_0.1.19.uu1-1_i386.deb
(Of course, you still need the source .tar.gz (or .orig.tar.gz) to find the
tutorial files. They are not included in the .deb file yet.)
Please let me know if that solves the problem.
