Thanks. I will try your patch once I get my parser assignment out of my
way.

Which notation? 8ve? I suppose you could look into the archive for the
discussions (or just wait for a few days to see the discussion appearing
in the mailing list; I don't think it is settled yet). If you are
talking about pedal brackets, then so far I don't recall any discussion
on it. The brackets I am referring to are those "standard" ones found
in modern piano books. Typically, I see variations of the following:
|___________|
|______^______|
|____ _ _ _ _|
|_____ _ _ _ _
|____ _ _ (some space here) _ _ _ ____|
This notation is much better than the traditional * and "Leo" markings,
which are hard to pinpoint on the score when to step/release the pedal.
Then there are several ways to mark the three pedals. One of them is to
put a script S before |___ to indicate the middle (damper?) pedal.
Also, some composers use slanted brackets (e.g. |___ then slide to
upper-right) to indicate the release of pedal.
The problem as I see with implementing pedal brackets is the position of
the beginning and the end of brackets (let alone collision with other
stuff). Usually, the brackets "surrounds" the notes to be sustained,
analogous the beaming notation in lilypond. Sometimes, when I compose
piano music, I am very picky about when to depress and release the
pedal, and the vertical bars of the brackets could be at any fraction
off the "usual place".
Another problem would be the inverted-V/dashed/slanted/etc effects on
the brackets. It seems that implementing them, both in the code and
mudela, would be rather painful.
