The eperl stuff is definitely in a rough state.
However, it is probably going away and will be
replaced by a different reporting mechanism,
probably based on guile/scheme.

A parent account's balance in the tree will be its children's
balances plus the balance of any transactions of its own. You
don't have to put any transactions in the parent account, though,
so you could use it as you describe above. It will just have a
bit more information for you to see.
