For now, I just create a "closed" account in the tree and move all the
dead accounts to be children of the closed account. You may need more
than one closed account depending on your heirarchy, the types of the
closed accounts, and your organizational scheme...
This doesn't help performance if that's one of your motivations, and
it's not even a rough approximation of "closing the books", but it
does reduce clutter...
