Hello, Cristian and developers. Thank you for your handling my submission.
FAQ of IPA font (http://ossipedia.ipa.go.jp/ipafont/faq.html) is written only in Japanese. So it may be difficult to decide whether we can use and IPA fonts. Your question can be divided into three questions. The two questions are about license of IPA fonts, and the other is about GnuCash svn policy. License 1) Can we include IPA fonts into GnuCash svn repository and redistibute them via SVN? If we do *not change* font files at all *with license file*, we can include them into svn. Many Linux distributions contain IPA fonts. The license of IPA fonts is enough free for Debian to redistribute them. See the following URL: http://packages.debian.org/en/squeeze/otf-ipaexfont License 2) Can we embed IPA fonts into PDF files and put PDF files on GnuCash web pages? The answer is yes. According to Japanese FAQ 5, embedding for digital file is *not* redistribution. So it's no problem. Policy 1) Should we include IPA fonts into GnuCash svn? Advantages: - All people can generate Japanese PDF files without problem, once we include IPA fonts, no matter witch operating system they use. Disadvantages: - IPA fonts are very large (about 10MB) and gnucash-docs will be increased by 10%. - Many Linux distributions and *BSD provide IPA fonts as their packages. If you install them via their distributions, all you can do is making symbolic links. - Not so many people generate Japanese PDF file. In fact, I thought that including IPA fonts into svn isn't approved. So I wrote ja/Makefile.am to emit error messages if IPA fonts don't exist. But if we approve to include IPA fonts, it is better because many developers are kept out of trouble.
