Murray, I think others have answered most or all of your other questions. Circling back to your questions on chart of acct for churches - GnuCash doesn't have a template, but there are LOTS available online - just search for "Chart of accounts for a church." Yes, your Chart of Acct's will "evolve" with time. The start of a new accounting year is a great time to think ahead, try to make as many changes as you can all at the same time. If you do a budget, budgeting often brings up the need for new accounts. Two other things I'll HEARTILY recommend (if you're not already doing these): 1. Assign "account codes" to your accounts. Essentially account numbers. It allows you to sort your accounts by acct CODE, instead of the default which is by name alphabetically. 2. There's a widely used default numbering scheme for acct numbers ... here's one web page on it - aptora.com/help/chart-of-accounts-numbering-convention 1000's for assets 2000's for liabilities 3000'sfor equity (usually called "net assets" in the non-profit world) 4000's for income 5000's for cost of goods sold (not relevant to churches) 6000's for expenses There are lots of variations on this, but something like this will organize your accounts sensibly on your Statements of Position and Activity when you do your reports. Knock a zero off if you want.

Subject: RE: [GNC] New User - 1st Question

...
I highly suspect that I will be dleting, editing and/or adding new accounts
unless there is a chart of account that is preset for churches. I used the one
given which had things like groceries and entertainment which the church
doesn't need but will also be categorizing the data into headings and creating
sub accounts, for example, PAYROLL, FACILITES, PROGRAMS, ONLINE SERVICES, etc
each with sub categories. I don't believe GNUCash has one like that built in.
If they do, please inform.
