Update: I was running Flatpak in a virtualbox instance of Linux Mint
21.2. That seem to be the source of the error"While pulling
app/org.gnucash.GnuCash/x86_64/stable from remote flathub: Writing content
object: min-free-space-size 500MB would be exceeded, at least 1.2 MB
requested" as virtualbox is not able to expand the virtual hard drive with
sufficient alacrity for some reason to re-install the Flatpak version of
GnuCash.

Moving on to an older HP laptop running Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS with 8 GB ram, I
found that I had previously installed Flatpak but that had been well before
release 5.14 became available. I am not sure if there was an older version
of flatpak GnuCash present, but now I installed 5.14. I found that I
needed to start GnuCash from the terminal and use File Run to migrate to
the thumb drive folder containing my data file in order to open the file
with the correct GCM file. After noting that the Preferences were
essentially the same as I had previously used in Windows, I entered some
transactions, saved the data file several times and closed the program.
Then after reopening the program from the command line it was still
necessary to use File Open to migrate to the data file instead of using the
recent link to recover the current GCM info. Then after I did something
which I thought was not even worth logging in my cerebral cortex the
program crashed. So now I need to figure out where the trace file evidence
may be found before I restart the program.
