Because they are not AI but simply 'entertainment novelties' designed to generate text that can fool a human into thinking another human wrote it by assembling sentences based on probability of word proximity determined from an existing body of text. They are *not* 'answer machines'. You do not 'ask them questions', you 'prompt' them to spit out words.
