My gnucash data is about 7 years old.  I only want the last two years worth of data.  Is there an orderly way of removing old entries?

The "orderly" way would to mimic the old days of pen and ink in bound volumes. Back then it was common to "close the books" each year. After that new volumes were opened for the next year. So would have a number of books, each covering one year. If you wanted to look at something from a previous year, look in THAT volume. Likely only looking at things at the last couple years, so older volumes might be placed in storage.

It is only because most of us aren't using the software that way, that your problem arises. In other words, imagine if you had been doing that from the start, new books each year. Would you still be asking your question?

If you are then asking, "how do I transition?", well you can start now closing each year. After a couple of years you would have completed transition.
