Tom,

Oh, yeah, I didn't compare your request to my enhancement request carefully
enough.

In any event, I settled on creating a spreadsheet that essentially does the
same thing as the scheduled transactions, but with the extra date work that I
want. The formulas are essentially unlimited in the sense that I'm using a full
spreadsheet, so that includes text.

The spreadsheet creates multi-split journal entries, so I just export to CSV,
and my GnuCash import is basically a few clicks, as I use the saved settings
for the GnuCash import. I've standardized my imports so many imports are
covered by a single import template.

One motivation for going the spreadsheet with multi-split CSV import route is
that I'm able to automate some excellent notes and memos. This has cut back on
my data entry load overall while producing standardized notes and memos (as
noted above, using text tools in the spreadsheet).

Also there are various other tools that could be used to accomplish this
workflow strategy.

While I have crafted a few different spreadsheets for various situations, I
began with some monthly bills, and at the beginning I just clicked in the
amounts. Then I started filtering by dates, over the last couple of years (I
didn't realize it'd been that long), I shifted away from using the scheduled
transactions entirely.
