Thanks John,
It seems then, there is a bug in the Guide and tooltip.
Both say this about Cutoff:
"The cutoff day for applying bills to the next month. After the cutoff,
bills are applied to the following month. Negative values count
backwards from the end of the month."
But only in the code docs does it say:
"cutoff: day of the month used to decide if the due date will be in the
next month or in the month thereafter"
There is no indication except that code documentation that it is
impossible to get a due date within the same month as the posting date
using Proximo. The user documentation and tooltip imply that it is.
Note, the Guide & tooltip for Due Day:
"The day of the month bills are due"
It does not say "the day of a *subsequent* month".
I just ran into this issue with a billing term I have set for 10th of
Month. The bill is dated 10/1/26 and is due on 10/10/26. (listed on the
bill as "Due by the 10th") The Due Day is 10, the Cutoff is 9. From the
above user docs & tooltips, I expected a due date of 10/10/26. Instead,
I get a due date of 11/10/26. I would have to use a term of Type:Days
and set it to "9".
I also have bills due the 15th of the same month they are posted and
have the same problem. (and others possibly as well, I'm just getting
started assisting a family business and don't yet have a list of all
terms needed)
While I can resort to type:Days, that only works for consistent posting
days from Vendors, which isn't the real-world case. (some due on the
15th post on the 1st one month, maybe the 2nd next month, occasionally
the 3rd too!) Instead, I've had to simply use 'none' for terms and set
the date manually which is fine, but it would be nice if these worked as
expected and needed.
-----
Should I proceed as you suggested with amending the RFE and then file a
bug on the Guide & Tooltips?
Or, are the user-facing docs correct and the code is indeed not
operating as intended? (though documented accurately as to how it functions)
Regards,
Adrien

GnuCash’s billing-terms proximo sets the due date as either the specified day
next month if the bill is recorded on or before the cutoff day or the following
month if after the cutoff date. The Guide [1] presents it a bit sparsely;
there’s a little more detail in the API doc [2].
My reading of but 670215 is the opposite of what you’re looking for: He wanted
to be able to specify proximo for multiple months out: You’re looking to be
able to specify it for 0 months. It would make sense to do both at once, so you
should add your request as a comment. I doubt that change is likely to be a
priority for the current core team so you’ll need to recruit somebody to write
a PR.
