Thanks for the info!
I suppose I should have looked up the word and then I would have
understood right off and saved you the time and trouble.
Yes, I think the Guide & matching Tooltip can be clearer. (and not
needing an historical explanation)
I have a possible suggested edit, but I want to ponder it a bit. It may
or may not include an explanation of Proximo itself without being too
wordy. (and should probably include examples like the code docs have,
though I see a typo in one there as well.)
At the least, using the same language as the code docs would be more
specific than 'following' which can certainly be interpreted to mean
'following the posted date's month'.
For my recent example, with a posting date of October 1st, November is
*both* the next month after October and it 'follows' October. The code
docs are clearer that the options are November & December.

Adrien,
The only difference between "The cutoff day for applying bills to the next month.
After the cutoff, bills are applied to the following month.” And "cutoff: day of
the month used to decide if the due date will be in the next month or in the month
thereafter” is that the former says “the following month” and the latter says “the month
thereafter”. Nothing in either says anything at all about paying the bill *this* month.
This usage goes back to 18th and 19th century writing [1], when it was common
to use latin-ish words to designate the previous month (ultimo), the current
one (instant) and the next one (proximo). The simple use of the word “proximo”,
both in the list box that presents it to the user and in the documentation,
tells you that it’s about next month. But that usage has been out of fashion
for at least a century, so it’s perhaps unfair to expect modern readers to know
that. Would it help to explain that in the Guide?
