1) The time needed for production of a patched package is usually not very
large for packages with require the autotools to build. For other packages,
more time may be needed. The limiting factor, however, is not the time to
build, but the time available to the developers, which at present is not
very large; see the decrease in the frequency of updates at
http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/ and
http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/oldnews.html during the last year. So, when
a considerable number of packages will have to be rebuild, this may take a
long time-span.
2) New packages are quickest imported when they are in the form of a
Gnuwin32 package, i.e. with subdirectories bin, doc, include, lib, man, and
so on.

Subject: [GnuWin32-Users] Cross compiling GnuWin32 packages on Debian
GNU/Linux
Dear GnuWin32 Developers,
I plan to cross compile many GnuWin32 libraries on a Debian
GNU/Linux system. The result will be real Debian packages!
This will make it easy to completely build a Windows (mingw32)
executable on a Debian system.
Although your binary packages are very clean, I can't use them
directly. The Debian policy says that the binaries must be
able to be rebuild from source. This is strict, but IMHO a
very reasonable rule.
For my project to be successful, I need your help:
1) I'll produce some compatibility patches which should be
included in your sources. (e.g. cleaner Makefiles, etc.)
How long do you need to include them in your sources?
2) There are some packages I'd like to cross compile
which aren't part of GnuWin32, namely:
libsmpeg
libSDL
SDL_mixer
SDL_image
What do I have to do to get them quickly imported into
GnuWin32?
Of course, I could keep my patches for myself and I could
cross compile the mentioned libs for myself, but I think
I should support your project so that my work will help
Windows users as well as Debian users.
Greets,
Volker
