We are witnessing a historical change in the political landscape here in the US. Two women were elected Governor of a State, and a Muslim was elected Mayor of New York City. In his victory speech, Zohran Mamdani, the Mayor elect of New York City, a member of the Democratic Party and a self-described socialist, quoted Jawaharlal Nehru. He referenced Nehru’s famous “Tryst with Destiny” speech, stating:
"A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance." This quote emphasized the significance of his victory and the change it represents to New York City.
