DEMAND FOR RIBANDAR PANCHAYAT :
PUBLIC MEETING ON 12TH JANUARY
The Ribandar Citizen's Committee will hold a public meeting at Ribandar
Patto on January 12th at 5.00 pm to launch an agitation to fulfil the long
standing demand of the residents of Ribandar for a Ribandar Panchayat.
Meanwhile, Adv. Aires Rodrigues has called upon Chief Minister to respect
the wishes of the people of Ribandar just as he was inclined to restore
Panchayat status to people of Taleigao in keeping with the public demand
there. He has also stated that the local residents are deeply anguished
that Ribandar has been neglected and has not seen any infrastructure
development and that the residents were only being burdened with high taxes
but no civic amenities.
Adv Rodrigues stated that the Government would find it very difficult to
adopt double standards by rejecting the long -standing demand of the people
of Ribandar while acceding to the demand of the people of Taleigao. He
further stated that in a democracy the will of the people had to prevail
and that the people of Ribandar should be allowed to Govern their locality
through their own Panchayat and end years of exploitation and neglect at
the hands of the Panjim Municipal Council. He has expressed the hope that
the people of Ribandar would work in making their Panchayat a model for the
State of Goa.
