First of all, I am not among those that champions the Nuclear apartheid that the West proscribes. I think in the long run, India's nuclear weapons will be an effective deterrent - not against China or Pakistan - but against the Empire. (On a separate note: the current BJP government seems more than happy to be the next US poodle, effectively negating its nuclear card) The problem lies in the fallacy of thought that exists within India that its nuclear muscle will help it: 1. Gain leverage against Pakistan or China. 2. Squeeze itself into an equal position within the other superpowers. Since neither of the two will ever happen, lets then stop behaving like immature children and move towards betterment of society. Personally, I care two hoots whether India get invited to China or Evian when 80% of the country still lacks running water. I don't want Vajpayee to limp across some Western capital when I see a 3 year old girl take care of her 6 month sister because her mother has to work odd jobs all through the day for a few rupees. Let us pause for a second and reflect where India truly is headed. It is not headed to some imaginary utopia. It is headed to a country where a privileged few reside along with a squeezed middle class and the ever increasing millions of poor. In our haste to catch up with the West, we have forgotten to bring along our poor brothers and sisters. And the saddest part is - we don't care!!! -- Tariq Siddiqui [EMAIL PROTECTED] ******************************************************************************* Rockets Lover!
