Neuro surgeons would also be appointed at both these places on contract basis, he said, adding that apart from saving lives during accidents these wards will also minimise the load on Goa Medical College.
Dr Amonkar was speaking at the handing over ceremony of AOMATHYS instrumentation set an instrument for the detection of internal fracture which was handed over by the Union Minister of State for Finance, Shripad Naik, to the Goa Medical College (GMC) authorities on Tuesday.
Dr Amonkar, also informed that the State government was trying to procure MRI scan with the help of the Centre. The equipment was given under the MP's Local Area Development Programme, at a cost of Rs 13 lakhs, to the Department of Orthopaedics.
Shripad Naik, in his speech, lamented that the development of various departments under Goa Medical College has not taken place at desired pace. He expressed his resolve to offer all possible assistance for attaining this development.
"The Goa Medical College has been the ray of hope for the patients, not only from the State but also for the patients in the neighboring States, and therefore, priority should be given for the improvement of facilities in this prestigious institution," Shripad added.
Head of Orthopedics Department Dr Shivanand Bandekar in his address said that the trauma unit was a most neglected area, and that there was a need to pay attention to this area.
