I fully appreciate your concerns about the N.R.I. Cell being associated
with the E.D.C.
When C.M. Parrikar accepted the suggestion for establishment of an NRI
cell at the WWG Convention in Dec.2000, he wanted the organisers to take
over its management and was averse to it operating under any government
agency, but since the necessary resources and infrastructure was lacking, he
had perforce to accept the reponsibility. Since he did not want it to
function directly as a Government Department, the next alternative was to
associate it with a Public Corporation such as the EDC.
It should, however, be clarified that although its offices are located
in the EDC premises and one of its officers has been deputed as a Nodal
Officer to the Cell, it does not function directly under the EDC management
but under a non-official honorary Chairman Mr. Chandrakant Keni.
