I dont think the custom of circulatiing Mother Mary's statue is fading in
Goan villages.

In my village in Chinchinim, the Church allocates one statue for each vaddo.
The first house of each vaddo used to collect the Saibinn from the church
and the last house used to bring back the statue to the church in a year.
In course of time the houses in each vaddo have doubled and hence the delay
in rotation.

In my school days Saibinn used to come to my house between 26th-30th Dec.
Now my folks tell me that Saibinn comes to our house in May/June following
year The reason they said was the houses have increased and some people keep
for
two days (if there is vow). I believe this is the same with all Goan
villages.

The sweets served were normally home made, like Dosh, Bulinas, Pinagr etc.
Besides special feni of jeera or orange flavour used to be served for the
elderly
in Kals. Now I heard people serve variety of dishes and drinks.

The prayers in the house would begin with the reading of Bhett (welcome
message for Our Lady)
in Konkani followed by the Ladhin and konkani hymns.
If the response 'Orapro nobis' was not loud enough, the Mestri would knock
the childrens head with the Rebek Bow....:)

This custom of circulating the Saibinn is being started in Mumbai too.
