KONKANI ABHIYAN SAMITHI - 2004 INAUGURATED IN KUWAIT November 12 (Kuwait): Konkani Abhiyan Samithi (KAS) - 2004 is being inaugurated on the 12th of November 2004 in Don Bosco School premises at Salmiya Kuwait. A young, energetic and enthusiastic group of 30-40 youths, will volunteerily work in visiting konkani people and seek support for konkani magazines, books and language during this abhiyan. The event began with a prayer by Mr.Jerald DSouza, Alangar and Mr.Pascal Pinto, one of the strongest supporters of Konkani activities in Kuwait, welcomed the chief guests Most Rev Dr.Jerald Mathais (Bishop of Simla/Chandigarh), Rev. Dr. Valerian Julian Fernandes (Principal of St. Paul's High School in Aurangabad Dist), Rev.Fr.Melwin D'Cunha (Kuwait) to the stage and introduced them to the people. Mrs.Dainy Coutinho (Secretary of CKCC-Kuwait), and Mrs.Reshma Correa presented bouquets of flowers to the chief guests. Most Rev.Dr.Jerald Mathais inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp and a minute silent prayer was offered to the soul of Amiyar, Mumbai who expired last week in Mumbai, followed by an article, mentioning the need of Konkani Abhiyan Samithi in presensituation - 'Porot ek khursaa vaatt' written by Valley Quadras, Ajekar - read by Miss. Reena Quadras, Shankerpura. Mr.Pascal Pinto inugurated Konkani Abhiyan Samithi - 2004 and the chief guest Rev. Dr.Valerian Fernandes in his brief speech, highlighted the need of Konkani work in present situation, and wished all the leaders a grand success in this abhiyan. He also spoke about World Konkani Convention and appealed to the people of Kuwait to support for the cause and show our unity. Mr.Henry Lewis, read the inspiring messages received from various konkani personalities and true konkani lovers like, Sangathi Media, Mr.Andrew L DCunha (Editor of writers forum, UAE - Daijidubai), Sijyes taccode, Mickmax, Mr.Austine Prabhu, Hemacharya, Mr.Melvin Rodrigues, Bellevision global, mangalorean.com, Mr.Lawrence Coelho - Editor (DIVO), maaibhaas.com, Rev.Fr.Ronald DSouza (Asst Director, YSM), Mr.Henry M Pernal and so on. Mr.Valley Quadras introduced all the volunteers of Konkani Abhiyan Samithi. Mr.Leslie Noronha [Co-ordinator], Mr.Henry Lewis [News Correspondent], Mr.Rudolf DSouza, Mr.Benna Fajir, Mr.L.J.Brahmavar, Mr.John Correa, Mr.Richard Rodrigues, Mr.Stanely Martis, Mr.Vincent Rego, Mr.Anil Menezes, Ms.Latha Menezes, Mr.Urban DSouza, Mrs.Gladys Noronha, Mr.Jerald D'Souza. He also mentioned that for this year the abhiyan has chosen to support 'Mithr', however support to any konkani magazine will be welcomed. In the second part, Mr.Pascal Pinto, Patron of CKCC (Canara Konkani Christian Community - Kuwait), highlighted the konkani work happening in Kuwait and appreciated those who work volunteerily. In his inspiring speech, he also appealed to the people to support the cause whole heartedly. Mrs.Gladys Noronha, introduced the chief guests Rev.Dr.Valerian Fernandes and the guest of honor Most Rev.Dr.Jerald mathais. Revs.Fr.Melwin D'Cunha presented a momentum to the bishop. Fr.D'Cunha in his usual inspiring words said "it is not enough only if there is a lake and no pipeline. Now it is not just enough there are konkani magazines for us. There needs to be a pipeline and Konkani Abhiyan Samithi is just like a pipeline, It is not one/two people's abhiyan, and all the people must come forward and take the lead in making this abhiyan a grand success like last year." Most Rev.Dr.Jerald Mathais expressed his happiness for the konkani work which is happening in the Middle East. In the third part - Konkani poetry recital, presided over by konkani poet Mr.Valley Quadras, in which poetries of Late Cha.Fra.D'Costa , Late Luis Mascarenhas, Late George Pinto, Late Denis Peter Rodrigues, Mr.Melvin Rodrigues, CGS Taccode were recited by Mr.Pascal Pinto, Mr.Benna Fajir, Mr.Oswald D'Souza, Mr.Leslie Noronha. Also poets Mr.Prashant Lopes Karwar, Mr.Henry Lewis, Mr.John Correa, Mr.Valley Quadras recited their own composed poems and entertained the crowd of 50 people. Mr.Valley Quadras proposed vote of thanks and the program was compered by Mr.Leslie Noronha. Mr.Jossy Pinto (M&M Confectionaries, Salmiya) arranged a delicious snacks.
