75 metres set-back to go any time BY HERALD REPORTER PANJIM, FEB 7 — The long pending issue on the 75-limit for constructions on either side of the NH 17 is expected to be withdrawn by the government any time now. In 2003, the BJP government had issued an order freezing land 75 metres on either side from the centre of NH 17. The Chief Engineer of the PWD Division II, J S S Rego while speaking to Herald said that the 75 metres limit is in the process of being relaxed to 40 metres. Rego said that the government has instructed the PWD to draft a note on the general relaxation of the limit from 75 meters to 40 meters. Currently, there are a couple of places along the NH 17 at Porvorim and also at Nuvem where the limit is relaxed to 40 meters according to Rego. Relaxation is in those areas where alignments have changed and the stretch of the road is not a part of the highway anymore, he said. In some random cases relaxation has been given in the case of old buildings and structures according to Rego. -- Peace be with you! Gabe Menezes. London, England
