Also, as committed liberals and self-described "secular humanists" I wonder if Cornel and you believe that abstinence is even possible. To a humanist it is far more convenient to abort the fetus. > Elisabeth writes: > > As for your premise about sexual abstinence, I am > curious to know why Conservatives are so bent on > moralising and legislating every aspect of sex, when > to have it (abstinence), with whom to have it (gay > rights) and what to do if things go wrong > (abortion). > Mario replies: > Elisabeth, as a budding Goa Suraj politician and polemicist, this is Lesson No. 2. Watch your facts, or the BJP and Congress-wallas will make "kheema" out of you:-)) > I don't think you can cite any evidence to support what you just said. My only premise was not moral, just the common sense that abstinence is the only sure way to avoid conception. I also tried to highlight the dishonesty of those who use the term "safe sex" for methods that are "safer" but surely not "safe". Nor did I say anything about legislating anything. > Making up stuff will get you verbally beaten up on the stump and in the media. Don't give your political opponents so many contradictions to work with that will confuse even your supporters. Lesson No. 4. Sarcasm is no substitute for rational arguments. > You are now reduced to the use of sarcasm as a way to deflect from your previous contradictions. To wit, that people have the "undisputed" right to have an abortion - only not for female feticide. Why? Because YOU have a daughter. But you think abortion is no laughing matter for the parents, though millions of parents are choosing abortion each and every year rather than give the baby up for adoption, which is not "humanist" enough for a liberal. Why? No "secular humanist" really cares about the unborn - too inconvenient or embarrassing for the parents. Far better to kill the fetus and deal with the consequences later. > No one is laughing, Elisabeth, other than the political liberals, extreme-feminists and the secular humanists who have convinced themselves that the fetus is an "unviable tissue mass" - and of course the abortionists who are laughing all the way to the bank. > >
