Dear Frederick,
I totally agree with you that the bulk of Muslims are
peaceful people who want nothing to do with the
extremists, the radical, the fundamentalist. But that
is akin to saying the vast majority of Germans in Nazi
Germany were good people. That's not the point. The
point is, in any society the moderates must be strong
enough, vocal enough and willing enough to voice their
opposition, not cow down in submission to more
strident voices. For evil to persist all it takes is
for good men to do nothing.
Do you think extremist aren't vocal in the West? They
have megaphones of their own to incite hate. But there
are effective checks and balances in place to keep
their voices where they belong, on the lunatic fringe.
That is the mark of a community that holds itself
accountable for its actions, and is able to reign in
its hawks by its doves.
It is time for the Muslim moderate voices to be heard,
everytime we have nonsense being perpetrated onto the
world, in the name of religion, whichever quarter that
maybe from.

PS: There is a misconception that CNN is a
government-lackey. It is infact the brainchild of Ted
Turner, who is one of America's foremost liberals. It
may relay news softened to American sensibilities but
which news media won't do that? Will NDTV show India
in a poor light while expressing sympathy for
Pakistan's policies?
