Dear Santosh,
I know you have done some research into linguistics
and so maybe you can shed some light on this little
personal experiment I am carrying out. (Not to be
confused with that other famous experiment involving
mice :))
I am trying to teach my daughter to be bi-lingual and
so constantly keep switching my dialogue between
English and Konkani. Ofcourse she is exposed to more
English, being in an English speaking environment and
me being more at ease with English. However, she is
picking up the Konkani faster than she is the English.
Is this because Konkani is phonetically easier. Could
it also be because Konkani, which I believe has some
links to Sanskrit is an older language and those
closer to human vocal sounds than the rounded vowels
of English?
