Sachin, I wear my salwaar kameez through the entire summer of New England and I have seen many women in saris and salwaars at conferences in the USA giving presentations and attending talks. As long as the weather permits we love to wear our beautiful and very comfortable clothes and my colleagues love them too. On a very recent trip to Goa to attend a meeting the delegates almost emptied the boutiques of Panjim in their frenzy to buy Indian clothes. Many of them wore their salwaars through the rest of the meeting. Its the privileged of an Indian woman to be able to wear so many outfits! I think its a lack of understanding of our culture that makes that these politicians 'rush to our rescue' even though we have no need for them. Please - India Gandhi wore a sari and it did not inhibit her physically or mentally! It would be in the interest of these politicians to inculcate some dress code into some of the tourists who to quote the late Principal of my Verna school look like 'they slept with the dukor.'
