Kindly publish this letter in the interest of public. Regards Stephen Dias D.Paula RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH IN GOA? In our democratic country nobody can stop any religious organizations setting up in India. We have several churches, mosques, gurudavaras and others temples in Goa which is their right to exist and now we are likely to see more churches into existence from foreign countries. Today’s (19.12.2013) news report in GT says that Russians Orthodox Church is planning to construct in Goa, for the benefit of their citizens and very soon some other countries may also follow. This is going to be a burden for the local government to give them space to build their churches where we hardly get a reasonable land for our Goans.. Once this is permitted, I am sure in future we may find a Russian colony or even a village in Goa. There are chances that they may appoint their own Mayor in their area to look after their interests and activities. Goa Tourism Department should be more careful to deal with these kinds of issues which may create some ill effects to tourism.. We are already having our own infrastructure problems and if this kind of demand is allowed to foreign citizens staying in Goa, one fine day they will demand crematorium/cemetery, market , offices and even their own Resident Home Minister. In the name of tourism it may create havoc to Goans in near future. Stephen Dias,D.Paula
