Well, I think Goanet has spewed out millions of words over the past (almost) 20 years, so there need not be a shortage of words returned to it at a time like this. I disagree with Eugene that only one or two people need to be chroniclers of the "Goanet story". There are bound to be multiple versions of what Goanet meant to different people, different takes on its high and low points, and what we perceive to be its strengths and weaknesses.
Cornel was a good friend, and we got off well too. But not all stories have happy endings, and he died too early. See this controversial take: http://fredericknoronha.wordpress.com/2008/10/14/online-bitterness-a-spillover-from-goanet/ In the early days of Goanet, and until very recently, the admin volunteers used to be often criticised for "censoring" the list. Today, interestingly enough, we're criticised for letting too much through. I agree, it isn't very pleasant when one is on the receiving end of a debate. But should we be free of all criticism when we are so critical ourselves of the rest of the world? The best take (my bias!) on Goanet, in my view is this essay by Dr Alberto Gomes from Down Under: https://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg03429.html https://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg03433.html FN On 5 June 2014 11:59, Mervyn Maciel <[email protected]> wrote: > I too agree with Eugene that the "BIG DUO"( Fred and Herman) are the ideal > individuals to > take on this task. > I am a comparative new comer to goanet having been introduced to this > forum by my good > friend Cornel D'Costa who, as has already been expressed, is sorely missed > and who contributed much > intelligent discussion on the forum. > I have enjoyed being a member of the forum and learnt a lot from some of > the healthy discourses > that were conducted.
