I was around on Goanet since the time when God the Father was wearing short-pants. But, of course, those short-pants were stitched by Herman Carneiro, and there are/were many others who were there a few months before me (Eddie Fernandes, Marlon, Uly, Samir ... and others whose name slip me). I barely survive still.... > How's that only a certain few take the bait on the Goanet? FN does not seem > interested in anything b'low his ,I imagine, intellectual standards!? A They say a good Goanetter knows how to keep silent when he's wrong. He also knows how to keep silent when he's right... and he surely needs to know how to keep silent when he encounters a flame-bait! > "trout" eh? Whereas I am like a "buranto". But I do know how to keep silent when I want to :-) > Hell no!!! It was actually a novel called Ananda-Math by rishi Bonkim > Chandra Chattopaddhyay. There are "vadas" or "ism" And I guess it was "integral humanism" with its ideological fathers in the European version of Aryavarta that needs to be called the ideological father of Indian nationalism? This is a rather saffronised understanding of Indian history. Or should I say Hindustan's history? Anyway, have fun in whatever you believe. To cite my favourite, the Wikipedia; Anandamath (The mission house of Felicity, 1882) is a political novel which depicts a Sannyasi (Brahmin ascetic) army fighting Indian muslims who are in the employ of the East India Company. The book calls for the rise of Brahmin/Hindu nationalism but, ironically, concludes with a character accepting British Empire as a necessity. The novel was also the source of the song "Vande Mataram" (I worship the Mother) which, set to music by Rabindranath Tagore, was taken up by many secular nationalists. The novel is loosely based on the time of the Sannyasi Rebellion, however in the actual rebellion, Hindus sannyasis and Muslim fakirs both rebelled against the British East India Company. The novel first appeared in serial form in Bangadarshan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bankim_Chandra_Chattopadhyay FN -- FN M: 0091 9822122436 P: +91-832-240-9490 (after 1300IST) Skype: fredericknoronha Yahoochat: fredericknoronha http://fn.goa-india.org http://fredericknoronha.wordpress.com Email fred at bytesforall.org Res: 784 Saligao 403511 Goa India ------------------------------------------------------- Goanet recommends, and is proud to be associated with, 'Domnic's Goa' - A nostalgic romp through a bygone era.
