Padmavati—Royal controversy The scene is getting murkier by the day .It is now debated whether she is indeed a mythical figure. There seems to be no historical documentation about her existence per se and that is the reason for her myth
She has been called as Padmini, which later is nomenclature of Padmavati is attributed to her Rajput historical records do not make a mention of her and there is complete silence about her between1300-1540 The first reference to her is by a poet Jaisi It is only between 1560 t0 1590 there is some skeptical reference that surfaced about her existence. Historically at least it appears to be more of non reality and the absence is deafening, now that the Rajputs are bent on creating a hangama. Some historians are of the opinion that negative inference is not justified in the absence of historical record, which is generating a divide. The popularity of Padmavati alias Padmini resides and perpetuated in belief and oral traditions .The defeat in battles usually led to women enslavement. A. Khilji a noted tyrant, womanizer and a lecherous character , The news of defeat therefore led to suicide of women around the Mewar King , Here in lies the so called pride and honour salvaged by an act of sati instead of being committed to a life of slavery and depredation In any historical recount there are adaptations and different versions and hence the dependence of authencity of any one of the documents is always a suspect and arbitrary conclusion. The vandalism, violence, open threats and intimidation to actors and producers of physical harm is crossing the limits of boundaries of civilized behavior The lack of firm action by the state is only encouraging, emboldening the fringe elements and Karni Sena to act blatantly Therefore the mere belief devoid of Historical facts is causing confusion nd spreading half truths Nelson Lopes Chinchinim
