Cunchelim SC edge past St Anthony SC Marna
An eighty fifth minute strike from Mahableshwar T helped Cunchelim
Sports Club register 2-1 win over St Anthony Sports Club Marna in the
Goa Football Association Second Division League match played At Duler
Stadium, Mapusa on Saturday.
In an evenly contest match which saw both the sides play the ball more
in the midfield, the first quarter hardly saw any action. In the second
quarter, Ganesh Poojar gave Cunchelim Sports Club the lead in the 20th
minute. Cunchelim were definitely the better among the two as they used
the flanks and the width creating a new dimension in their attack.
However, after much probing, St Anthony Sports Club were back into the
game after Vipul Pednekar made it all square just before the breather.
The teams were tied 1-1 at the break. Crossing over, both teams started
the second half on a cautious note and attacking only when needed. St
Anthony SC couldn't find the much needed goal and to bring in a change
in tactics coach made two changes bringing in Sadanand and Vasudev in
place of Anselm and Claudio to bring more creativity in the team.
Despite the change, St Anthony SC couldn't capitalize on their chances
at the other end, Cunchelim players were still upbeat and kept pressing
their opponents. The match-winner finally arrived in the 85th minute
when Mahableshaw scored for St Anthony Sports Club. They won the game
2-1.
