Hello Paulo & friends / Goanetters
This is precisely what I had tried to avoid, it seems many of the responses I
received in fairness, is not what this was originally about. I had only
responded to one poster who was being bulllish. I well understand the ins and
outs of Goa, probably as much as anyone else who is interested in anything
Goan.
I had only commented that it was Goan INDEPENDENCE from Portugual that
occured in 1961. It was also LIBERATED but its all got out of hand, the
original context of this has gone way over what was intended.
From 300 years BEFORE Christians were called Christian (300 BC) to the
present day, is not all that difficult to fathom, if not only via the internet
then by what our parents taught us about Goa (of which they knew very little
except for the recent past), my post has been twisted and turned into something
totally different as I mentioned above.
Thank you for the input anyway, but before Nehru sent in India's armed forces
to "liberate" Goa from the Portuguese there were many negotiations and lots of
other countries tried their hand at either helping or had their own issues with
Portugal, least of all African & Orient countries, all trying their hand at the
"independence" for their physical territories to be released from the iron grip
of Salazar and his cohorts in Portugal.
But this is all academic & I fully understand why you responded to this post
of mine and I am grateful for more information & opinions that arrive daily on
this forum, it is after all what Goa is all about, knowledge. It does not help
any of us when our posts arrive 2 or 3 days late, with other posters who arrive
only within a day or so, overtaking what has already been said, three day
previously but not yet on this forum.
We forget the past at our peril...........!!
Some chronology would benefit this forum, if all posts arrived in the order
they were received at the moderator's computer and then released for us to
view, as I say chronological order that we have less negative issues to
correct, even though they were not negative at the time the poster pressed the
"send" button. That is why I now not only put the date but also the time I
completed my post, just before I sent it to Goanet.
