Jeevan R wrote in response to JC:
Try reading your Sashti or 'SUNAPARANTI' Konkani to the above folks and you
will realize what I mean. These folks have all their religious ceremonies
(BHAJAN, POOJA, MOONJ, etc.), entertainments (NATAK, KIRTAN, etc.) in Marathi
only, the language to which they connect and relate very easily. And this has
been going on for ages now.... IS there anything bad in that? or just because
Konkani has a status of Rajbhasa these folks should should have an overnight
flip. BTW, Bichoim , Sanquelim, Pernem, although culturally identical to the
bordering Maharashtra are still the parts of Goa, so is very much the Marathi
bhasha.

Hey Jeevan,
Just to tackle a wrong premise by JC, do you have to provide your own wrong
premise?
NOT ONLY the people in, Bicholim, Sanquelim, Pernem BUT also the ones in
Sawantwadi-upwards and Karwar-downwards (in the Konkan region) speak Konkani.
The dialect changes as you move direction, but it is Konkani, alright!
Even, when the script changes the language remains same.
BTW: In Maharashtra, too, the dialects of Marathi change from Kholapur to
Vidharbha, from Pune to Mumbai and from tribal to Dalit and from the urban to
the rural. And there too, some intellectual idiots are killing the language by
imposing a standardised Marathi on the tribals, Dalits and the diverse
communities who speak interesting variants of Marathi.
Get the facts right!
In the Goan villages, where the functions are being held in Marathi, nobody has
ever frowned on me for speaking in Konkani.
And I have no problem with them delivering their speeches in Marathi.
BUT when we come down the dais, I am spoken to at ONLY in Konkani.
Secondly, as a teenager I discovered that when a Goenkar is angry, he swears in
Konkani.
(BTW when I get angry I use only bodylanguage : )
I can give many examples, but I am sure if you connect to your own life, you
will find them, too.
Jeevan, once you addressed me as a Konkani-vadi because I write in SUNAPARANT…
But if you remember right, I did not accuse you of being a Konkani-vadi just
because you read my article written in Konkani.
All this VADI business is very narrow minded…
As is CAMPS and LOBBIES…
I can’t be convinced to walk such a narrow pass!
So whether somebody do their prayers in Marathi or speak to their cannines in
Portugese or ask the waiter in a Goan cafeteria, “Khane mein kya hai?” or tell
their babies, “Baba Take, Baba Put, Baba do” or we talk to or talk at each
other in English on the net, THE FACT REMAINS that Konkani is the language of
the people of Goa.
The only issue that confuses people is the standardization of language and
script.
My favourite muse,Manoharrai said so often that
every LIPI and BOLI is just another SARI of Konkani mai.
The plurality of the Konkani language needs to be encouraged.
And that will be furthered if we stop questioning whether Konkani is OUR
language or not.
LANGUAGE is meant for expression and every language is beautiful.
Let's learn to repect all languages and not be ashamed of our own.
